Mathematics Database Lesson Plan
Appropriate for Grades: 2- 10
Overview:
Have the students make their own personal database of maths terms that they need to learn or have difficulty remembering.
Activity:
1. Start Clarisworks / Appleworks.
2. Start a new database.
3. When the database opens, you will see a window called Define
Database Fields.
4. In the box Field Name, type: Word.
5. Click the Create button.
6. Type the field name: Description.
7. Click the Create button.
8. Click the Done button.
9. Click on the Layout menu and drag to Layout to switch to Layout view
10. On the page, click and hold the grey box that is labelled Body.
11. Drag the box halfway down the page. This will give you room to work.
12. Click on the Field Heading: Word.
13. Press the Delete key.
14. Click on the Field Heading: Description.
15. Press the Delete key.
16. Click on the Field: Word and drag it over to the left edge of the page.
17. Click on the Field: Description and drag it up to the right of the Word
field so that they are in line with each other.
18. Click on the Layout menu and drag to Browse to switch to Browse
view.
19. Click in the first field and enter your first word.
20. Press the Tab key to switch to the next field and type the description.
21. To add another word, choose New Record from the Edit menu.
22. When all of the terms are entered, choose Save As: from the File menu.
23. Navigate to your floppy disk or folder.
24. Type a name and click the Save button
25. Choose Print from the File menu.
26. Click the OK button.
27. Compile the printout as a booklet.
