Keypals Lesson Plan
Using one of the keypal/email friends services, students will locate and write to a student in another country.
Activity
1. Before class, log each computer onto the Internet.
2. Explain to your students that they will be using an email program to write to a student in another country.
3. Sit your students down at a computer and open the email program.
4. Open the web browser and go to http://www.epals.com, a site which contains that names and email addresses of hundreds of students looking for someone to write to.
5. Get them to find a pen pal from another country using this site (This can be any country except for their own).
6. Once your students have found a pen pal that they like, have them write to them introducing themselves and getting to know the other person at the other end.
7. Explain to your students about the rules of netiquette. See http://www.albion.com/netiquette/ for more information.
8. When your students are done writing to their pen pal, ask them to quit the email program.
9. Log each computer off the Internet.
10. Provide the students with time each day to write to their epal.
They might even like to try real time online chat using ICQ or another chat program like MSN Messenger.
